It's every sheep for itself at the Penn State sleep lab.

Gina worked as research assistant for the Sleep Deprivation Study conducted at the Sleep and Environmental Psychology Laboratory at Baruch College, City University of New York (Engle-Friedman PI). Findings (in Sleep Science) demonstrated that undergraduate students exposed to total sleep deprivation perceived tasks as more difficult and made more cognitive shortcuts, or "heuristics," compared to rested participants. At Penn State, Gina worked on the SoundSleeping and Deep Sleep (Buxton PI) studies, which demonstrated more vigilance lapses on a test of attention after auditory sleep disruption (findings in Sleep and Nature and Science of Sleep). Her work on the Sleep Restriction Study (Chang PI) examines interindividual differences in performance impairments induced by sleep loss, which was also her dissertation topic (findings in Nature and Science of Sleep, Scientific Reports, and PLoS One). Gina also was project leader on the "Sweet Sleep" study, which demonstrated that one week of ~1hour/night extra sleep led to improved cardiometabolic functioning and hydration in college students (findings in Sleep Health).
